Unveiling the Hidden Power of Anxiety: A Personal Journey

Hello everyone, I'm Alara Sage, your host at the Ecstatic Woman podcast and an ecstatic life mentor. Today, I want to delve into a topic that many of us grapple with - anxiety. It's not something we desire or wake up wanting to experience, but it's a reality for many. I want to explore its significance and offer insights based on my own experiences.

My Personal Encounter with Anxiety

I used to believe I was emotionally stable and had cracked the code to avoid anxiety. However, I later realized that I was actually numb and shut down emotionally. The nervous system plays a crucial role in anxiety and it goes beyond just fight or flight responses. It can also freeze or fawn, and these are all expressions of fear.

The Vagus Nerve and Its Role in Anxiety

My journey led me to the discovery of the vagus nerve and its dysfunction in humanity. I believe that slowing down and taking better care of ourselves is essential to heal the nervous system. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought attention to the healing of nervous systems worldwide.

Anxiety: A Feeling, Not a Disease

Despite not experiencing much anxiety myself, I see it as an opportunity to understand and help my clients who do experience it. I emphasize that anxiety is a feeling and offers the opportunity to recognize and address what is causing it. While medication can be helpful in some cases, numbing the anxiety without addressing the underlying causes is not a long-term solution.

The Connection Between Anxiety and Unresolved Trauma

I want to highlight the connection between anxiety and unresolved trauma. When we experience stress, our bodies release adrenaline and cortisol, but often we don't give ourselves the time and space to process and release these chemicals. This can lead to emotional pain and dysregulation in our nervous systems, causing discomfort and a desire to escape into our minds.

I recall waking up early in the morning with intense anxiety, feeling like electricity in my nervous system. My higher self guided me to breathe into my body and feel the discomfort, which ultimately led to healing and releasing trauma from different stages of my life.

Embracing Discomfort: The Path to Healing

I want to emphasize the power of feeling discomfort and encourage you to give yourself permission to do so. By relaxing into the discomfort instead of resisting it, energy can flow and healing can occur. Anxiety can be a signal that there is unresolved trauma and pain in the body, and by addressing and resolving it, we can create a different, more empowered life.

The Power of Curiosity

Just like Alice in Wonderland, whose world expanded because of her curiosity, I believe that curiosity can open up new possibilities and information. I encourage you to be curious about your own anxiety. Explore what is happening in your bodies and why you feel unsafe and in emotional pain.

The Journey to Becoming More Embodied

Being numb and shut down is not pleasurable, even though one may not realize it in that state. I believe that life is meant to be lived fully and that to experience aliveness, one needs a body that feels alive and safe. I hope that my insights and tools have inspired you and invite you to join our Facebook community and subscribe to the newsletter for further support and connection.
